Dance Party Japan

For the longest time I’ve been wondering about the schedule of classes. With graduation on Friday of this week I was trying to figure out what we do for almost a solid month afterwards. There is a big block of time there, but today Mr. Kimura showed me a schedule in English and I was able to see what’s going on. It looks like there is a strange mix of classes that don’t count, half days, and staff meetings. I’m not sure how much of these I’m responsible for, but I hope to find that out in the next few weeks.

On Friday Harada-san, my new ESS student, invited me to watch a dance routine put on by the dance class today. I walked over there and went inside, and there were a couple of other teachers there, also recruited to be an audience. The class was divided in thirds and the students did three routines. Miss Kotera was running it, and she was dancing along with the music as she watched her class bouncing around. She danced exactly like the scene in Boogie Nights where John C. Reilly danced in the booth to the terrible music they were making.

The girls danced up a storm – they did a great job. I had a good time watching, and Miss Kotera was really happy that I was there to lend some support. It was an unusual way to spend first period.

The rest of the day was pretty mellow – no classes except for last period. I went to lunch with the history teacher, who smokes like a chimney. We were gone for an hour, and when I got back my clothes reeked of smoke. Yuck.

This evening was pretty relaxing – listening to music, cooking a big dinner, and finishing up some laundry. Another wild night at home!
