{"id":3430,"date":"2022-06-08T10:17:19","date_gmt":"2022-06-08T01:17:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bryan.fredricks.net\/blog\/?p=3430"},"modified":"2022-06-08T10:17:19","modified_gmt":"2022-06-08T01:17:19","slug":"books-city-of-orange-by-david-yoon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bryan.fredricks.net\/blog\/?p=3430","title":{"rendered":"Books: City of Orange by David Yoon"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>There are some twists in this book so I don\u2019t think I should say much about the story here &#8211; but I did like the initial premise and then started to like it less the further along the story went. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The writing here is quite good &#8211; sort of like getting into someone\u2019s head and hearing their thinking process (not unlike The Martian by Andy Weir). There are some contemporary references, and even some American racial issues that didn\u2019t seem to fit in to me. Finally I felt like the author was throwing things in and the ending sort of dragged for me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But the initial thrill of the situation that the main character finds himself in was great &#8211; in the future I\u2019ll be looking for books that follow a lead-in like that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Next I\u2019m reading This Time Tomorrow by Emma Straub.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There are some twists in this book so I don\u2019t think I should say much about the story here &#8211; but I did like the initial premise and then started to like it less the further along the story went.
