{"id":3665,"date":"2024-04-04T09:08:21","date_gmt":"2024-04-04T00:08:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bryan.fredricks.net\/blog\/?p=3665"},"modified":"2024-04-04T09:08:23","modified_gmt":"2024-04-04T00:08:23","slug":"books-the-riddle-master-of-hed-by-patricia-mckillip","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bryan.fredricks.net\/blog\/?p=3665","title":{"rendered":"Books: The Riddle-Master of Hed by Patricia McKillip"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>I\u2019d heard great things about this book and the series that it starts, but maybe because of these high expectations I ended up disappointed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It could be because it starts in an unusual way, introducing a bunch of characters that we don\u2019t meet again (at least in this book) and then starts us off on a hero\u2019s journey. The book is filled with strange visions &#8211; things that you take as real are not &#8211; and it sort of backs into the information you need to build the world in your mind. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Maybe this vision thing was a product of when this book was written &#8211; the 1970\u2019s. Our hero spends most of the book moping about and wishing he could go home to do pig farming. We get it &#8211; you\u2019ve been caught up by destiny &#8211; let\u2019s move on. There are twists in the story but without the understanding or background that everyone else seems to have they made little impact on me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite the great reviews I think I\u2019ll pass on the rest of the series. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Next I am reading Extremely Loud &amp; Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I\u2019d heard great things about this book and the series that it starts, but maybe because of these high expectations I ended up disappointed.
