Great Fish

I just had four classes today. The classes were for the most part what I expected, but in one of the classes, the teacher was off his game and was throwing me off mine. A lot of what he was doing was because he was improvising, and occasionally that can lead to disaster. I’ll leave out the gruesome details, but we weren’t at our best today.

At the end of the day, a student came to my desk and apologized for not showing up yesterday. I wasn’t quite sure who she was or why she was apologizing, but slowly it became clear that a long time ago we had talked and I had asked when her birthday was. She said that it was October 23rd, and she asked me for a birthday present. I promised her one, and she said that she would be there to collect it. I’ve done this before – I usually write a little birthday message on a card and then put a stamp from America on it. The only hitch here was that the conversation took place a long time ago, and I had completely forgotten. Maybe the girl was a little disappointed, but once I got the clue I got everything together and gave her a birthday card.

Kuniko is home early most of this week, because her school is having exams. In a very rare event she was home when I got there, and she already had a dinner planned out and ready to go. We had grilled yellowtail cutlets and tofu with onions. It was healthy and really good. With fish this good I could eat it more often.

Tonight we’re going to enjoy all the extra time we have together this evening. Tomorrow Kuniko is out late – her school is having a softball event, and she’ll be there rooting for her team and then she’ll go out for dinner afterwards with the rest of the staff. That means I’ve got an evening to myself tomorrow. I’ll have to think of something to do…
