We’ve been doing a lot of shopping online lately – quite a lot, actually. I guess the reason is that we have very little time to go shopping during the week, and it is very easy to compare prices and make the purchase online. In Japan you can have things delivered C.O.D. very cheaply, so that makes things much more secure as well.
So the delivery guy has been to our house quite a bit – enough so that when he drives by making deliveries elsewhere he waves to me. I guess Okubo is a small town…
Last night when I got home there was a notice in my mailbox – a delivery attempt was made, but nobody was home. It listed the cell phone number of the driver, so I called and was immediately in contact with the aforementioned delivery guy. As soon as he heard my voice he knew it was the foreign guy, and after about 10 minutes he came over and made his deliveries. Very professional, very friendly guy.
Kuniko got a new electronic dictionary loaded with not only English/Japanese but Japanese/German and German/Japanese. She really enjoyed speaking German while we were there, and I think she is looking to get a little more proficient. I know how she feels – I’ve been working on my Spanish lately trying to get it up to snuff.
So the language nerds are at it again, for no particular reason other than it is fun to speak and understand other languages, I guess.
