Talking Wine

So with the weather change we are starting to shift a little bit away from drinking beer to drinking wine. We’ve got a pretty big cellar of wine hidden under our floorboards, and it is fun to get back to the wines that we didn’t feel like drinking in the heat of the summer.

Tonight Kuniko will go drinking with some of her friends in Osaka, at a place that specializes in Sicilian wines. We’ve enjoyed a couple of good wines from Sicily lately, and so it will be a good research project for Kuniko to discover some new wines.

Our wine cellar is full of wines mainly from South America, (Argentina and Chile), California (whatever we can get our hands on – they are hard to find here), and Italian wines. We can get a lot of French wines here in Japan, but usually the price is much higher than the quality, while the value of the others are much more in line because they haven’t really caught on in Japan. California and Australian wines are especially under-represented here – most are jug wines or generic table wines. Too bad it is so hard to get quality stuff here.

Luckily the internet allows me to order special wines now and then, so I keep my eyes open and buy some online now and then. The price can sometimes be crazy, but if it is the right bottle of wine it can be worth it…
